A brief overview of the department The Arabic Language Department at JAFLI teaches Arabic
to non-native speakers, specifically officers and NCOs from friendly countries'
armed forces. This is to promote the Arabic language and enhance our
international relations. Since 1993, JAFLI has been offering Arabic language
courses to participants from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia,
France, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Turkey, Malaysia, Romania, Italy,
Hungary, Spain, Comoros, and Azerbaijan. In 2011, the Language Institute was accredited
as a member of the Training Center for Peace, affiliated with NATO. Courses The Arabic Language Department offers the
following courses: Basic Arabic Language Course: This course lasts
for sixteen weeks, starting from March and ending in June, with a total of 400
study hours. Advanced Arabic Language Course: This course lasts
eight weeks in the first half of the year, totaling 200 study hours. Arabic Language Refresher Course: This course lasts
four weeks in the second half of the year, with a total of 100 study hours. Cultural Exchange Course with the Australian
side: This course lasts for one week in the second half of the year. Online Distance Learning Courses: These courses
are conducted online, including the friendly Australian side. Blended Learning Courses: These courses combine
online and in-person teaching, including the friendly Austrian side. Special Arabic Language Courses: These are
tailored courses designed for individuals or small groups with specific
purposes, aiming to meet the individual learning needs of the participants. Participants in these courses receive intensive
lessons, with five hours of study a day. So far, there have been 69 Arabic language
courses for non-native speakers, including 28 Basic courses, 13 advanced
courses, 49 refresher courses, six language exchange courses with the
Australian side, and Arabic language courses specifically designed for academic
exchanges with the United States. Approximately 967 participants have enrolled in
these courses, including over 200 participants from the American side and more
than 100 participants from the Australian side. Tests The institute relies on several examinations
that are in line with international, Arab, and military standards, covering all
proficiency levels. These include: Listening skills examination on Google Drive, this
is sent through a link. The results and analysis are displayed on Google Forms. Standardized tests to measure the proficiency
level of non-native Arabic speakers, at levels 1 and 2, according to NATO
standards (STANAG). Examinations to assess the proficiency level of
non-native Arabic speakers based on the Common European Framework of Reference
for Languages (CEFR). Tests based on the standards of the American
Council (ACTFL) and the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR), with over 400
questions. Level assessment through an oral interview is
conducted according to the standards of The European Language Certificate
(TELC-CELTA).
Arabic language level test according to the
standards of Jordanian universities for Arabic speakers. These exams are
conducted for internal assessments of members of the Jordanian Armed Forces
enrolled in internal courses, such as translation courses, intensive English
language courses, and internal workshops for teachers.
